A personal storytelling workshop with Christopher Rivas
There has never been a more important moment to share our truths and our experiences. This moment of crisis has allowed us to think about why we became artists in the first place--for the accolades, fame, funds, or because we would make our art no matter what, even in crisis, even on a small platform, even in our living room. In this moment, we meet our true voice--not the voice of an industry, or what someone would have us be. In this online personal storytelling workshop, we will consider new ways to share our stories during times of social isolation. Maybe you lost your platform to share your voice. Maybe you lost a gig or two (or six like me). Maybe you had all your identity wrapped up in your profession and now you are having an identity crisis. Maybe you just need to get something off your chest. Maybe now is the time to set that story free.
This online workshop is for seasoned writers and total novices, alike. It’s for artists and people who appreciate a good story. No previous writing or performing experience is necessary. Using a variety of techniques including active listening, guided free writes, sharings, and study, participants will gain tools and develop skills for telling and sharing a powerful, honest, and compelling story. You will understand the power and necessity of story, of why we tell stories and how the stories we tell matter far more than we imagined. And if you are really up to it, you will leave with a story/essay/chapter or two.
Space is limited to 12 participants. Register below for Part 1 in this 3-part series, which will be held live via Zoom on Monday, May 4, 2020, from 11:00am - 12:30pm PDT. If you like what you experience in Part 1, you will be invited to continue on in Parts 2 and 3 (May 11 and 18 at 11:00am PDT).
