Cooperatives are businesses that collectively share ownership and are democratically governed. Led by Austin Robey, the co-founder of Ampled, this workshop will be a pragmatic, practitioner-focused guide for how artists and creative entrepreneurs can start and build a cooperative business. Whether you are looking to start a business now, exploring options for an existing practice, or just curious, this workshop will explore the use of alternative shared ownership models to build equitable community-owned businesses.
In this 2-hour workshop, we’ll cover key concepts that distinguish the cooperative model as well as some practical tips for getting one off the ground. You will learn about:

Austin Robey is a co-founder of Ampled, a cooperatively owned web platform that allows musicians to be directly supported by their community. He is interested in the development of alternative economies and building more democratic, equitable, and inclusive online platforms. Austin is a member of NEW INC, the New Museum incubator, as part of the Equitable Platforms track and has a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and is based in Brooklyn, NY.
